Brandon Pugh serves as legislative counsel for the New Jersey General Assembly – Minority Office, where he works on a range of legislation from cybersecurity to public safety. He is also a Judge Advocate in the U.S. Army Reserve and a gubernatorial appointee/board member on a governor’s advisory council, among other roles. Some of his past positions include serving as the president/CEO of a homeland security advisory firm, the managing editor and special projects editor of the Journal of Law & Cyber Warfare, a fellow with a federal agency, a member of the Rutgers Cybersecurity Certificate Advisory Board, and an elected and appointed official at the local, county, and state level. This includes service as the Vice President for Legislation of the New Jersey School Boards Association, where he focused on state and federal legislative efforts for a quasi-governmental entity representing New Jersey’s nearly 600 school boards.
Brandon has presented and been published dozens of times, which includes helping train congressional staff on cybersecurity, preparing cybersecurity guidance for thousands of public schools, and leading panels with senior military and intelligence community officials. He has served in multiple advisory capacities for business, political, and government leaders. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Rutgers Law and his bachelor’s degree from The College of New Jersey (TCNJ). He is a Master Continuity Practitioner (MCP) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and holds over one hundred certificates and certifications related to counterterrorism and emergency management.
